The project ”Development of broadband infrastructure in rural ‘white’ areas of the Greek territory and Services for the Exploitation-Development of the Infrastructure with Private Public Partnerships (PPP)” aims at bridging the “broadband gap” in areas across Greece where no broadband access is available and private investors have no plans to deploy relevant infrastructure in the near future.
The European Commission, by means of a decision, approved the State aid measure. Following an international tender, which was awarded to OTE S.A. and the association of companies ΙΝΤΡΑΚΑΤ-INTRACOM HOLDINGS- HELLAS ON LINE SA, contracts were signed between the Information Society S.A. and the following established for special purpose companies:
- OTE RURAL NORTH SPECIAL PURPOSE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE S.A.
- OTE RURAL SOUTH SPECIAL PURPOSE DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF BROADBAND INFRASTRUCTURE S.A.
- RURAL CONNECT BROADBAND NETWORKS SPECIAL PURPOSE S.A.
Having signed a contract with Information Society S.A., the three above-mentioned companies have deployed, operate and manage a public broadband network, which provides wholesale broadband services to electronic communications providers which in turn offers relevant services to users (citizens and undertakings) in three geographical zones of the Greek territory.
In this context, EETT has the following responsibilities:
- To approve the reference offers of the above-mentioned companies and the tariffs for access to their networks.
- To monitor the implementation of the claw back mechanism.
