ΕΕΤΤ assigns [.gr] or [.ελ] domain names in English and Greek characters. In addition, it assigns names with the following extensions, which are associated with specific activities:
- com.gr: Commercial activities
- edu.gr: Educational organizations
- net.gr: Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and network providers
- org.gr: Non-profit organizations
- gov.gr: Exclusively for governmental organizations.
To register a [.gr] or [.ελ] domain name, you have to follow the procedure described below. First, you are advised to check whether the desired domain name:
- Is available for assignment, through the Whois service.
- Falls under any of the restrictions determined by EETT.
- Is in line with the rules of synthesis of domain names.
Submit a registration declaration
Submit a registration declaration for the domain name you are interested in, through a registrar. Along with the domain name registration declaration, you must pay to the registrar the registration fee (see below).
The registrar is required to send you, through the e-mail address included in your declaration, a receipt of submission for the registration declaration, in which all submitted information is stated.
Important note:
- You are advised to review the receipt of submission sent by the registrar to verify the accuracy of the information included in the declaration.
- EETT will disclose any documents via the e-mail address stated in the registration declaration.
Fee payment
Upon submitting the declaration, you must pay the registration fee to the registrar. EETT determines the maximum registration fee that a registrar may ask registrants to pay.
Domain name activation - Duration of assignment
A domain name:
- Becomes temporarily active within 3 hours upon the submission of a registration declaration by the registrar to the domain name Registry.
- Is assigned definitively 5 days after the date of submission of the registration declaration to the Registry.
The duration of assignment will be for a period of 2 years. The date of submission of the registration declaration to the Registry is considered the start date.
Important note:
Provided that the necessary conditions are met, domain names under the [.gov.gr] level as well as 2nd level [.gr] or [.ελ] domain names included in EETT’s list of geographical terms are only assigned to:
- Governmental organizations to which domain names under [.gov.gr] may be assigned.
- Any respective local government organizations.
Temporary activation does not apply to these domain names. They are activated 5 days after the date of submission of a registration declaration to the registry.
Changes in assignment information
In the event of any change in the information (e.g. holder’s company name/name) included in the submitted registration declaration, you must duly inform the registrar within one month from the date of change.
Important note:
Invalid/outdated information of the registrant may lead to the temporary deactivation of an assigned domain name or even to the permanent deletion by virtue of a relevant decision issued by EETT.
Name holder certificate - Authorization code
EETT, upon request issues a certificate of domain name assignment and/or sends you the authorization code of the domain name. The authorization code is a combination of alphanumeric characters that ensures the identification of the domain name holder and allows the holder to manage the specific domain name.
You may receive the certificate and the code to the e-mail address you have stated in the registration declaration by submitting:
- The following applications, along with required documents, to EETT via e-mail to info@eett.gr.
- A relevant request to your registrar via e-mail.
