5G-TACTIC

The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) participates in the European research project “5G-TACTIC – 5G Trusted And seCure network servICes”, funded under the European Commission Digital Europe Programme (DIGITAL), Grant Agreement No. 101127973.

About the project

5G-TACTIC is a European initiative focused on strengthening cybersecurity, trust, and resilience in 5G networks. The project develops secure, open, disaggregated, and interoperable 5G solutions that contribute to a competitive and sovereign European 5G ecosystem.
The project:

  • started on 1 December 2023,
  • has a duration of 36 months,
  • brings together 15 partners from 8 countries,
  • includes National Regulatory Authorities, Cybersecurity Authorities, European SMEs, mobile network operators, infrastructure providers, and research & academic institutions.

Project objectives

5G-TACTIC addresses both technical security challenges and regulatory dimensions of next-generation networks. Its core objectives include:

  • Development of a 5G Cybersecurity Toolbox.
  • Extensive security analysis, evaluation, and testing.
  • Definition and validation of mitigation measures.
  • Piloting, integration, and evaluation of multi-vendor open 5G solutions.
  • Delivery of training activities for:
    • technical and security experts,
    • European Regulatory Authorities,
    • Cybersecurity Authorities.

EETT’s Role in 5G-TACTIC

Through its participation, EETT strengthens its regulatory expertise in emerging network technologies and contributes to shaping a secure and innovation-friendly regulatory environment in Greece. This aligns with EETT’s mandate to address the challenges of the digital transition while supporting socio-economic development.

  • shares best practices and regulatory knowledge, including experience from its participation in BEREC,
  • supports the development of an open and competitive European 5G ecosystem,
  • contributes to the design of secure, interoperable, and open 5G solutions,
  • supports the integration and security evaluation of multi-vendor 5G environments,
  • participates in the identification and analysis of security risks, with emphasis on O-RAN deployments,
  • contributes to the definition of technical risk mitigation measures ensuring:
    • confidentiality,
    • integrity,
    • availability of 5G networks,
  • supports the use of Artificial Intelligence for optimized testing and operation of 5G networks,
  • promotes and participates in training and knowledge-transfer activities,
  • Contributes to the dissemination of project results at European level.

Why This Matters

EETT’s involvement in 5G-TACTIC enables

  • early insight into security risks and technological developments in 5G,
  • evidence-based contribution to European regulatory discussions,
  • strengthening of national capacity in 5G cybersecurity and trust frameworks,
  • support for innovation, market competition, and digital resilience in Greece.
