January 30, 2013

Dr. Leonidas Kanellos, EETT and BEREC President, met with the Irish Minister for
Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Mr. Pat Rabbitte. The meeting was held on January 24
in Dublin, and has been organized by Comreg, the Irish Communications regulator. Both parties
shared views on BEREC’s work plan and its contribution in promoting electronic communications.

Additionally, they reaffirmed their commitment in achieving the objectives of the Digital
Agenda 2020. The BEREC Chair also declared BEREC’s readiness to support the Council’s work in this
direction, with its high level of expertise. The discussion focused on development policies for NGA
networks, on universal service, on the need to ensure equal access to high-speed broadband services
for all European citizens, on EU funding for broadband investment in countries with less developed
infrastructure as well as on BEREC’s work on Net Neutrality and International Roaming.

The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) is a European body
composed by the heads of the National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) of the 27 EU member states. It
advises and supports the European Parliament, the Council, the European Commission and the National
Regulatory Authorities on issues related to the application of the EU regulatory framework for
electronic communications. It maintains a key role in shaping EU’s regulatory policy and
safeguarding competition to the benefit of the market and consumers.
