The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) has launched a public consultation concerning: (a) The process for removing existing technology restrictions, regarding the provision of mobile communication services in the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz bands. This regulatory action will harmonize the use of the specific spectrum bands in Greece with the European Regulatory Framework and allow the deployment of 3G networks in the 900 MHz band. (b) The award procedure of mobile communication licences in the 900 MHz band, which expire in September 2012. EETT intends to conduct an open tender procedure for the award of spectrum usage rights, covering a segment of 2?20MHz in total, within the 900 MHz band.
The proposed actions will be combined with the forthcoming regulation for the simplification of antenna licensing procedures. The overall aim is to facilitate the deployment of mobile networks in Greece and expand the provision of mobile broadband services country wide, attracting investment and maximising consumer benefit.
In this context, EETT invites providers, potential investors, professional or industrial bodies and any other interested parties to submit their comments and views on the above proposed actions until February 4, 2011.
The text of the consultation as well as an English brief is available at EETT's website:
