Guidelines for Consumers of Multimedia Information Services

May 26, 2016

EETT informs consumers on the safe use and cost of Multimedia Information Services (MIS) in
order to prevent unwanted or excessive charges.

Specifically, EETT announces that MIS are premium rate telecommunication services and are not
included in the free minutes or free sms numbers provided on fixed and mobile telephony programs
and are listed separately in telephony bills. In particular, the framework under which MIS charges
are shaped is the following:

– 901-XXXXXXX and 909-XXXXXXX Lines: Telephone calls and/or send/receive sms to/from these
numbers are charged according to the commercial policy of companies.

– 806-XXXXXXX, 812-XXXXXXX, 825-XXXXXXX, 850-XXXXXXX and 875-XXXXXXX Lines: Telephone calls
and/or send sms to numbers of those lines are charged by invoice which is predetermined and common
to all companies, while the cost (in cents/minute per call or sms) is signaled from the second and
third digit of the 10 digit phone number. For example, a call to any number of 825-XXXXXXX series
is charged with € 0.25/minute.

– 5-digit numbers such as 14XXX, 190XXX to 196XXX, 1980X and 1985X and 54XXX: Telephone calls
and/or send/receive sms to/from numbers of those lines are charged according to the commercial
policy of companies.

EETT recommends to MIS consumers that for their protection they should:

– Get advance information of the charges for services rendered. Note that, under the
obligation imposed by EETT, companies are obliged to inform consumers in their
information/promotional material about their identity, the charge per call/sms, and for their
available assistance/complaint line (helpline) that should not operate with increased rate and must
be available to consumers at least during working days and hours.

– Exercise caution when making phone calls and sending/receiving sms from/to MIS numbers.

– Exercise particular caution before entering their mobile phone number on a website (as a
condition for registration to a service or in order to participate in a contest, lottery etc.) and
carefully read the terms and conditions and the cost of the provided service. This caution applies
to similar services offered by shows and advertisements in the electronic and print media.

– Know that they have the opportunity to apply to their provider for activating access
barring, which the provider is required to meet, either for all or for some MIS numbering
series.
