7th EETT International Conference: The road to recovery is digital

“The road to recovery is digital” is the main conclusion of EETT’s 7th International Conference
on “Digital Investments for Competitiveness and Recovery”, that took place on June 14-15, 2012, in
Athens, Greece.

In the midst of today’s economic downturn, this year’s discussion focused on the recovery and
growth opportunities arising both from broadband investments and digital economy. More than 500
executives from the market and broadcast media as well as representatives from the European Union,
national regulatory authorities and international organizations highlighted the growth prospects of
the telecommunications sector. They also emphasized the need to apply a National Broadband
Strategy, in line with the requirements of “Digital Agenda 2020”, to achieve “broadband coverage
everywhere and for everyone.”

Among the issues discussed were the conditions and possibilities for investment in next
generation access networks, the European experience and the national regulatory strategies, the
market trends of fixed and mobile broadband services, the digital broadcasting services and the
business prospects of spectrum utilization. Also, special attention was paid to the section
focusing upon the framework and the business models of the Internet economy, both internationally
and nationally.

For the seventh consecutive year, EETT’s International Conference proved once again to be a
successful event and a meeting point for the State, the Regulator and the Market to discuss
innovative solutions and the regulatory, technical and commercial challenges and opportunities
surrounding advanced high-end telecommunication infrastructures and the competitive growth of the
Greek electronic communications market.
