A meeting was held between the President of the Hellenic Telecommunications
& Post Commission, Professor Nikitas Alexandridis, who was accompanied by the Committee’s
Vice-President, Mr. Nikolaos Koulouris, and the Chief Prosecutor of the Courts of First Instance of
Athens, Mr. Dimitrios Papaggellopoulos, at the Public Prosecutor’s offices on Friday 30 September
2005.
The purpose of this meeting, which was requested by the Hellenic Telecommunications &
Post Commission, was to try to find ways of broadening the methods of eliminating the phenomenon of
illegal installation of aerials of radio and television stations in mountainous regions of the
Prefecture of Attiki (and primarily on mount Ymittos), which illegally transmit their signals and
which may cause interference particularly with the frequencies of the Civil Aviation Service.
The parties decided that the actions of all involved State organisations (such as the
Hellenic Telecommunications & Post Commission, the District Attorney’s offices, the Town
Planning Service, the Forestry Service and the Public Power Corporation) would have to be
immediately coordinated so that systematic actions may be taken in order to fully restore legality
in this sensitive sector. The Chief Prosecutor of the Courts of First Instance of Athens shall be
responsible for monitoring the implementation of the relative actions.
It should be noted that the Hellenic Telecommunications & Post Commission is the
competent authority on managing and monitoring the spectrum of radio frequencies and on matters
concerning aerial licensing.
