The licensing procedure for the granting of WiMAX technology testing licenses by the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (ΕΕΤΤ) has been completed. Out of the 29 interested parties having submitted technical folders, licenses have been granted to 19 companies.
 
The following table lists the companies/ entities that have been licensed to install testing stations at the respective locations: 

Due to the large number of applications for the Prefectures of Attica and Thessaloniki, licenses have been granted by time priority order, until the spectrum available in each geographical location has been used up. In the remaining Prefectures all requests have been satisfied. Licenses shall be valid until April 30th, 2006.

According to EETT President, Professor Nikitas Alexandridis, “This procedure comes under the efforts made by EETT to encourage modern alternative access technologies allowing a large number of users to connect wirelessly to the Internet, using high speeds, to the benefit of both competition and consumers.”
