On Thursday, January 5th, 2006, the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post
Commission (EETT) requested from mobile telephony providers information about all kinds of
electronic games of chance they provide, and which fall under added value or separately charged
services.
More specifically, it is the case of all kinds of electronic games of chance
that the foregoing providers provide or have provided, asking their subscribers to send text
messages (SMSs) with a code, where such text messages are charged at a rate that is a multiple of
the regular rate, in order for them to participate in a draw to win a prize.
The specific action taken by ΕΕΤΤ aims to investigate the need to intervene, in the context
of its competences, in order to protect the users of telecommunications services.
