The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT), has by means of a
letter addressed to mobile telephony providers and OTE, requested information about any problems
caused to networks as a result of the earthquake that occurred in the Kythira area on Sunday,
January 8th, 2006, as well as about the action taken to repair them.
EETT has requested such information aiming to check the response of the foregoing networks
to the incident in question. More specifically, EETT shall check the extent to which problems
caused have lead to failure (total/ partial) to provide services and the duration of such failure.
It is also noted that in the context of efficiently dealing with mobile telephony network
emergencies, EETT is already looking into the possibility of entering into National Roaming
agreements among providers (namely, in case of a mobile telephony network emergency the calls
of the subscribers of a given mobile telephony network shall be served by another network in Greek
Territory). To that end, a meeting has been scheduled with mobile telephony providers at EETT's
headquarters for next Wednesday, January 11th, 2006. |
