The Hellenic Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) in cooperation with
the Information Department of Thessaloniki Police Department launched yesterday, December 20th,
2005 an operation in order to locate and cease the operation of an illegal television station
broadcasting indecent content over channel S-39, at the Voulgari location in Thessaloniki.
More specifically, a technical team of EETT located the broadcast production point which by
means of an illegal wireless link was transferred to the Chortiatis broadcast center. The automatic
procedure was launched in the presence of a District Attorney Office officer and forces of the
Thessaloniki Police Department. The operation resulted in ceasing the operation of the station,
confiscating all technical equipment and arresting two persons.
Furthermore, on December 19th, 2005 an operation was launched in Peristeri, Athens to locate
and cease the operation of an illegal radio station. During the operation, a technical team of EETT
located the point of production of the broadcast which by means of an illegal wireless link was
transferred to the Imittos broadcast center. In the context of the automatic procedure and in the
presence of a DA representative and Police forces the entire program production and broadcasting
equipment was confiscated. Further, the broadcasting equipment of another illegal radio station was
found at the same location and confiscated.
Such actions are part of a series of systematic actions taken by EETT aiming at fully
restoring legality with regard to radio frequency spectrum.
