Yesterday, as of December 8th, 2005, the Hellenic Telecommunications and Post
Commission (EETT) in cooperation with the DA Office and the Police launched an extensive operation
to locate and cease the operation of illegal radio and television stations broadcasting from the
Pirovolia location in Mount Egaleo.
More specifically, in the context of flagrant crime, investigations were carried out in over
10 containers, and the illegally installed equipment of 1 television and 4 radio stations was
confiscated. Further, aerial systems not serving lawful users and lacking in installation licenses
were also confiscated. At the same time a technical team of Public Power Corporation SA
found, following investigations, interceptions to its network and interrupted the
supply.
The operation was supervised and coordinated by a competent official of the Piraeus Court of
First Instance District Attorney Office and was assisted by strong police forces from the Piraeus
Police Directorate.
As EETT President, Professor Nikitas Alexandridis stated, “Yesterday's successful operation
falls under the series of systematic actions taken by EETT aiming to fully restore legality in this
sensitive radio frequency spectrum area. The response of the DA and Police authorities has been
immediate and determinant in achieving success. ΕΕΤΤ expects the remaining competent authorities to
take the action necessary to remove from the said location all illegally installed masts and
containers in order to definitely eliminate the phenomenon of unlicensed broadcasting.”
