In accordance to the Common Ministerial Decision (CMD) 1555/2002 (OJ B’47/23-1-2002) “Categorization and Circulation of Telecommunication Devices” and Commission Decision 2000/299/EC of 6 April 2000, radio equipment and telecommunication terminal equipment which are placed on the market with no restrictions constitute one Class. This Class is referred to as Class 1. Class 1 equipment carry the following sign:

Equipment for which restrictions or bans apply regarding its placing on the market or putting into service (i.e. a right of use is required) constitutes Class 2. This equipment apart from the aforementioned CE sign they carry the following (alert sign):





In the pages of European Communications Office (ECO) an indicative list of equipment sub-classes in accordance with R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC) is provided.
