CONSUMER’S ADVOCATE
Head of an Independent Authority

• April 2005: elected by the Council of Ministers and, upon consent of the Parliament’s Committee of Institutions and Transparency, appointed as first Consumer’s Advocate, in virtue of the decision of the Minister of Development at the time and present President of the Parliament, Mr. Dimitris Sioufas. Namely, he was appointed as Head of the “Consumer’s Advocate” Independent Authority.
• During his tenure of office, a Draft Code of Consumer Ethics was elaborated, for the first time in our country, intended to regulate relations between suppliers and consumers, for the protection of the latter and the congruous operation of the market.
• Moreover, a Draft Regulation for the Internal Operation of the “Consumer’s Advocate” Independent Authority was elaborated.
  

During his tenure of office, the activities of the “Consumer’s Advocate” Independent Authority included the following:

• Recommendation to the Company for the Provision of Natural Gas of Attica (EPA) regarding the inability to respond to requests asking for connection and contract activation (26/10/2006)
• Recommendation regarding newspapers that offered DVDs with indecent content, non appropriate for minors (25/04/2007)
• Recommendation to banks issuing credits with stable interest rate, which surcharged consumers for premature payment in full (10/05/2007)
• Recommendation - Conclusion to the Company for the Provision of Natural Gas of Thessaloniki regarding delayed connection and provision of natural gas – debtor’s deferred payment (31/05/2007)
• Recommendation to an insurance company regarding life insurance contracts with segmental coverage of hospitalization – Clause of premium readjustment connected only with the ECU – Arbitrary, unilateral and imposed or unconventional increase of premiums (31.05.2007)
• Recommendation to the DIA supermarket regarding impermissible advertising (16/07/2007)
• Recommendation to the National Bank of Greece for veiled advertising of consumer credit (20/07/2007)

• Participation of the Consumer’s Advocate in the consultation regarding the framework of principles for the social responsibility of companies created by the organisation Qualitynet Foundation (26/04/2007)

During his tenure of office in the Administrative Council of the Lawyers’ Association of Athens, he was member of its Disciplinary Council, member of the Administration Committee, as well as member and advisor in other committees that drafted and presented proposals related to issues regarding justice assurance and correct operation
