Born in Trikala, in 1956, Michael Tamilos completed successfully the elementary and higher education and proceeded to study civil engineering at the National Metsovio Polytechnic (EMP) in Athens. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering in 1979 with a Higher Second Class Degree and became a member of the National Technical Chamber (TEE). His military service was completed in February 1982 at which time he held the rank of Second Lieutenant. He is married to Stella Ntouvli, a doctor of anesthesiology, and they have two children studying Αrchitecture and Urban planning & Zoning.

An active member of his profession, he has worked on projects (research, planning and construction) both in the private sector and the public sector. His portfolio includes collaborations with other professionals from the same as well as other fields of engineering and works ranging from medium to major construction projects (residential, commercial and industrial) all over Central Greece.

As an elected member of the Technical Chamber’s (TEE) Central Delegation Committee since 1993, he has served in all stages of representation of T.E.E. in Prefectural and Regional levels as well as a member in a lot of technical and development committees for scientific and professional issues regarding engineers.

Interested in Local Governance, he was elected member of the Trikala Prefectural Council from 1987 to 1991. He was then elected Municipal Councilor in 1995 and was appointed Deputy Mayor and Vice President of the Municipal Organization of Water Supply and Sewage Works. In the years 1999 to 2002 he was Head of the Opposition in the Trikala Municipal Council.

In October 2002 he was elected Mayor with a majority vote of 52%. On the 15th of October, 2006 he was elected again Mayor, for another quadrennial, with a majority vote of 47.98%.
