Athanassios Piliounis
Mr. Athanassios Piliounis was born in Montreal, Canada in 1964 and has both the Hellenic and the Canadian nationality. He got an athletic scholarship and studied aeronautics at the University of Boston and then finance at the Universities Concordia and McGill, in Montreal. He holds a Bachelors of Commerce and a Master of Science in Administration (M.Sc.) from the University of Concordia, as well as a Certificate in Management from the University of McGill.
From 1991 until 1999 he worked as analyst at the Treasury department of the Royal
Bank of Canada and Canadian National and in XiosBank, in Greece, as Product Manager Investments at the Personal & Private Banking department, as well as in Citibank as Senior Product Manager Investment Products.
Since 1999 he has been Managing Director and basic shareholder of TELEDOME SA for fixed communications. TELEDOME is one of the first providers that received a license for the provision of fixed telephony services and has ever since gathered significant know-how in developed telecommunications services. In the capacity of Managing Director of TELEDOME SA, Mr. Piliounis has observed the liberalization of the relevant market since its first steps, achieving the rapid development of the company and positive economic indices, which include significant profits and return of investment for six consecutive years. TELEDOME has effected investments adding up to €30 million for the development of network infrastructures and has activated since 2005 the Broadband network “AIOLOS”, which is the first – after the liberalization of the telecommunications market – owned telecommunications network of fixed telecommunications transfer, which spreads along the Athens-Thessaloniki axis ending at the independent metropolitan networks of Athens and Thessaloniki.
Mr. Piliounis was one of the founders and President of the Greek Licensed Telecommunication Providers Association (SATPE). Also, he is vice-president of the Greek-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. In November 2006, he was honoured with the “KOUROS 2006” Entrepreneurship award for his performance in Development and Innovation by the Entrepreneurship Club. The award was given to him by Prime Minister K. Karamanlis and the Minister of Development, Mr. G. Sioufas.
Mr. Piliounis has long been active in sports and was a member of the National Youth Team of Greco-roman Wrestling. He is married to Athena Dimopoulou, lawyer and lecturer at the University of Athens. They have a son, Michael, and a daughter, Christina.
