Yiannis Oikonomou
Mr. Yiannis Oikonomou is the current General Secretariat of Consumer Affairs in the Hellenic Ministry of Development.
He was born in Lamia in 1973 and from his early student years he developed intense political action. While being a student in the Agricultural University of Athens, he became the General Secretary of the student organization of Nea Demokratia (DAP – NDFK) till 1998 and then President of the youth organization (ONNED) and member of the Political Council of Nea Demokratia (ND) till 2001. In 1999 he was a euro parliamentary candidate of ND (on the latter honorable position) and from 2001 till today he is a member of the Central Committee of ND. During the elections of 2004 he was a parliamentary candidate of ND for the electoral district of the Prefecture of Fthiotida.
Meanwhile he has been employed in several Consulting Companies such as the Bung Mediterranean SA in which Mr. Oikonomou worked as a Business Development Advisor during 2004 -2006.
Moreover, he had a significant contribution to the organization of the Olympic Games of Athens 2004 as he participated actively in the Administration of Communication Affairs during the Games and took part in the group for presenting know – how matters to the Organizing Committee (BOCOG) of the Olympic Games of Beijing 2008.
