Dimitris Drakos
President, Perfecture Union of Greece (ENAE)
Dimitris Drakos was born in Elaia, Trifylia in 1950. He attended the Evangelist School of Nea Smyrni and studied at the School of Agriculture of the University of Athens.
He was involved in agriculture and in 1979 he was hired by the Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Kyparissia. He contributed to the merger of the eight Unions of Agricultural Cooperatives of Messinia and was the Manager of this new Union for four years. He had an active role in Greek agriculture, in the cooperative movement and regional development.
He was President of the Messinia Prefectural Committee of the New Democracy party from 1993 to 1994. In 1994 he was elected member of the Prefectural Council in 1994. He served as President of the Prefectural Committee for Agriculture and as deputy Prefect. He was elected Prefect after the demise of former Prefect Panagiotis Foteas. He has been elected Prefect of Messinia for three consecutive elections (1999-2002, 2003-2006, and 2007-2010). Since 2002 he has been member of the Union of Prefectural Administrations of Greece (ENAE). He was elected President in February 2007.
He is married to Georgia Katelouzou, economist, employed at the Agricultural Bank of Greece.
